Prof. Göhlich holds a Diplom-Ingenieur degree from TU Berlin and a Ph. D. from
Georgia Institute of Technology (USA), both in mechanical engineering.

From 1989 till 2002 he worked in different fields of the Mercedes-Benz and Smart product development. In 2003 he became chief design engineer for the Mercedes-Benz S-Class sedan and coupe. His responsibilities included the concept phase as well as the validation process for the conventional and hybrid drive train variants.
In July 2010 he joined the Technical University of Berlin as a full professor and chair holder for Methods for Product Development and Mechatronics (MPM) at the School of Mechanical Engineering and Transport Systems.
Prof. Göhlich teaches various classes within the TU Berlin B.Sc. and M.Sc. engineering programs including
- Fundamentals and Advanced Methods of Engineering Design
- Computer Aided Design in Automotive Engineering
- Integrative Development of Mechatronic Products
- Modeling and Simulation of Mechatronic Systems

Prof. Göhlich’s research work comprises methods and processes for the development of mechatronic systems and new concepts of electro mobility. In particular he is interested in
- Ultra-light Urban Vehicles
- Electric Urban Bus Systems and Utility Vehicles
- Innovative Product Development Methods and Processes
- Parametric Design and Optimization of Vehicle Structures
- Technology Road Mapping for System Innovations

He has created the TU Berlin E-Mobility Research Network, a multidisciplinary umbrella organization which covers the entire value chain of electric transportation systems including cars, busses and commercial vehicles. The participating 24 chairs from all seven schools are equally active in fundamental and applied research. The network provides a platform for joint projects, it strengthens the cooperation among German and international partner universities and it invigorates the collaboration with public and private institutions.
Prof. Göhlich has published research papers in leading international journals and has given numerous seminars at a number of important international conferences. He is on the advisory board of several conferences and member of the steering committee of the Berlin e-mobility agency (eMO).
